FLAG COACHES:  We are in great need of coaches again this year. Coaching can be very rewarding and also allows you to have some control over your practice times/days. Practices will be twice a week for 1 hr. Monday through Thursday 6pm to 9 pm. All practices will be held at the Nelson baseball fields like last year. Get another parent to sign up to help you and coach together there can be up to 3 coaches per flag team.  Click on the above link to register.

Coaching is more than just a volunteer job.  It is about mentoring a group of young athletes and guiding them along a path to success.  Too often coaches, parents and players get hung up on team record and only measure their success based on wins and losses.  Success is more about playing competitively, getting better as a team week to week and having individual player growth throughout the year.  Remember, youth football ball is a Developmental Program to help make all of the kids into better football players.

1>  You must register with Nelson Youth Football.

2>  You must pass a background screen.

3>  You must complete the USA Football Coaches Certification.  This must be done before August practice starts, no exceptions.

4>  ALL Tackle coaches must be have a valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification.  

5>  You must complete the Positive Coaching Alliance course with TVYFL.

Youth Coach Certification

Certifications will be flag and tackle specific. Coaches completing the certification for the first time will complete our Level 1 Flag or Tackle Certification, while returning coaches will be automatically assigned to take the Level 2 Flag or Tackle Certification. Coaches can access the certification by following the steps below or by referencing the attached instructions.

1. Create a USA Football Account.
2. Log onto your account on USAFootball.com and click “Organizations”
3. Scroll down to the search bar and type in “Nelson Youth Football”
4. Click on “Search Organizations”
5. Find “Nelson Youth Football” (it should be the first to pop up)
6. Click “Associate”
